Walking Two Paths
At Steinmann Prosthetics & Orthotics, I’ve worked with countless families across New Mexico who are navigating a unique and challenging journey—raising children who need orthotic or prosthetic care while also juggling work, home life, and everything in between.
These families are strong. They’re committed. And they’re not doing it alone.
Because in pediatric care—especially when it involves mobility—we all need to function like a team.
It Takes a Team
We see it every day: parents/guardians squeezing in appointments between shifts, doctors writing detailed letters of medical necessity late into the evening, and therapists adjusting exercises to meet each child’s goals. Everyone contributes, and every role matters.
The truth is, pediatric orthotic and prosthetic care doesn’t work in isolation. It works through collaboration, shared goals, and consistent communication.
Beyond Devices—Real-Life Support
Caring for a child who needs orthotics or prosthetics involves far more than fitting a device. Many of these children also have special needs—developmental, physical, or neurological—which means they may require support in multiple areas of life, not just mobility.
That’s why our care must extend beyond the clinic:
-
Working with doctors and specialists to ensure proper diagnosis and timing
-
Supporting caregivers of children with complex or special needs in managing daily routines
-
Adjusting devices as children grow or develop new needs
-
Helping the child stay engaged, encouraged, and included—in school, in play, and in life
At Steinmann Prosthetics & Orthotics, we pride ourselves on being a part of that larger circle of care. We’re not just fabricating devices—we’re supporting families, collaborating with clinicians, and staying committed to each child’s long-term mobility and independence.
A Shared Goal
We believe in teamwork. In fact, I often explain it this way:
As pediatric healthcare providers, we are all on a team.
The child is the name of the team, the parent is the team owner, the primary care provider is the team coach, allied providers and specialists are team players, and our team goal is optimal function at each stage of growth.
Pediatrics requires team play.

This mindset guides how we care, how we communicate, and how we work with others.
